The spark of energy practice.

What if I told you that there's a practice out there that can change your mindset, your body, and your soul connection? Something so profound, yet so simple. Something that helps you let go of the overthinking mind, and settle deep into your body. I call it the Spark of Energy Practice. And I'm giving you all the details right here!


Did you know there have been multiple scientific studies on human energetics? Energy work is no longer a woo-woo practice for hippies and astologers in the West. Of course, the East has known about this for centuries. With science finally catching up there is a new push for more experiences to feel and move your own energy. Let me explain just one of the studies so we're all in agreement that energy is real and you can affect it!


In the 1980s, Herbert Benson and his team from the Harvard Medical School went deep into the most remote parts of the Himalayas to find Tibetan Monks. These monks were experts in Tummo Meditation, a form of inner heat yoga. Using basic measuring tools, the researchers found that the Monks could increase the temperature of their fingers and toes in freezing weather by about 17 degrees Fahrenheit! And that wasn't all! They wrapped cold, wet sheets around the Monks and had them do Tummo, and they dried the sheets in near freezing temperatures. And we are talking statistically significant findings, not just one or two successes!


Verifiable information that proves our ability to not just feel but move and heat our own energy! And if they could dry a sheet, imagine what you could do with your potent energy! It all starts with practice. Energy work is like going to the gym. Sometimes you go and feel really pumped up and on fire. Other times you go and it's alright. Every once in a while, you go, and you feel like it would've been better to just stay home. Energy work is a practice just like the gym! You keep showing up even when it's meh, and you get better and better and better.


You don't get bigger muscles though; you get more sensitive to the subtleties of the energy! Maybe today you try this practice and feel a tiny twinge of energy. And maybe you keep doing it for 8 days and find that tiny twinge is more like a soft waterfall now. And maybe you keep going and after 32 days it feels like it's an essential piece of who you are and is so pleasurable to enlivening! Or maybe you've been practicing energy for a while, and this practice is just a new and fun way to drop into it!


Either way, it's about practice. You don't expect yourself to be a master of something you've never tried before, so give yourself space and time to keep trying! I challenge you, if you've never done energy work before to go for 32 days doing this practice and watch what changes. And if you're already into energy work, I challenge you to do this practice for 8 days and watch what's different.


The most important aspect of energy work to remember is that where attention goes, energy flows! So, keep your attention focused exactly where you want to the energy to move. If you want it to move up your spine, then all you have to do is draw your attention up your spine. This is why I often use a visual marker to keep my attention, like a ball of fire or lotus flower. Trust that it is moving. And know that energy speaks through sensations, so those sensations you're feeling? That's the energy!


The Spark of Energy Practice


  1. Find a space you won't be bothered by pets, kids, people, or media. If you want to put on a nice trance song to practice to, I might suggest Flying Carpet by ELEA (ELEA feat. Bahramji - Flying Carpet). No music is fine, too. Start a timer.

  2. You'll begin standing and shaking. You can shake by bending your knees slightly and allowing your entire body to reverberate with that quick bend and straighten. Or you can let the movement come from your hips by thrusting them quickly forward and back, then let your body reverberate out from there. Take time to get this right. Let your head reverberate (as long as it's not painful). Let your arms move. Don't hold your breath. Are you holding back anywhere? Drop in further. 2 minutes here.

  3. Now come to stillness, still standing. Visualize a straw coming down from your root (at the cervix for females, at the perineum for males) and into the vast lake of unlimited energy beneath the Earth's surface. Squeeze your pelvic floor (not your abs or butt or shoulders) and inhale the liquid up into your root. Exhale and relax the pelvic floor and let the energy fall back down. 1 minute here.

  4. See a ball energy/fire at the root, then draw it up with your attention, pelvic floor squeeze, and inhale through your anus, tailbone, and sacrum all the way up to the top of your head. As you do this allow your hands to rise with the energy. At the top, touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth (optional), relax the pelvic floor, exhale, and drop your hands down with the ball of energy back to the root. So, inhale, squeeze, visualize the ball going up with your hands. Then exhale, relax, and visualze the ball going back down to the root, letting the hands fall back down, too. Don't be stiff, let your body move however it wants through this. This is called the Microcosmic Orbit. 3 minutes here.

  5. With the last few minutes (until the song ends or until your timer hits 8 minutes) I want you to tap into whatever sensations you may feel and just move with them. Is there a gently throbbing sensation in your chest? Let it move by moving your chest around curiously. Do your hands feel light and tingly? Shake them out or touch your body with them. Whole body vibrating? Dance it out! Keep returning to the spark of that energy and letting it move you.


Quick Notes:

  1. Find space. Maybe turn on music. Start timer.

  2. Shake! 2 min

  3. Squeeze and draw energy up straw and back. 1 min

  4. Microcosmic Orbit with hands moving with energy. 3 min

  5. Free flow with whatever sensation arises. 2 min
